The history of dogs in Russia comes from the monarchy, featuring the Russian Borzoi (wolfhound) from the 17th century. In 1914, Genetics of Dogs was released and is still a popular book in breeding, as well as Pavlov's Reflex of Dogs. The Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) was a part of USSR Government system. The breeds Black Terrier, Laikas, Russian Borzoi, Russian and Kavkazian Shepard were created to contribute to World Canine Organization.
To buy a dog or cat people would contact the particular breed club directly. The pet shops would sell only birds, hamsters and fish. Even if you would buy a puppy from prestige bloodline, pedigree and rights to breed would be issued after the puppy has been valuated by judge-expert in the dog show.
Veterinarian service was free of charge, vaccinations are mandatory, and vet ambulance is provided to the public. What has been changed?
Legalization of dollar and euro open opportunity to bring fresh bloodlines from European countries to (England, Holland, East Europe, South Africa, and USA.) The open market creates a competition between the breeders. A better bloodline increase quality, which can earn more titles and bring more stud service.

Now we have a veterinarian pharmacy open to public, no prescription required to buy antibiotics, and vaccinations, including Rabies. The world-popular pharmaceutical companies represent their products (Pfizer, Bayer, Ceva Sante Animale, Intervet). There are also food companies represented: Hills, Royal Canin, Eucanuba, Pedigree, ProPac. It educates a dog owner, helping them provide good care to a pet.
Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg) became a major importer of all dog breeds to Korea, Eastern Europe, Middle East and USA. So why does the American consumer have problems with imports from Russia or Ukraine? (For this issue please check my BUYER BEWARE Section)
